Claim 2017!

So it's a new year. I hear and see all sorts of people talking and posting on all types of Social Media about how this is 2017 and 'it's gonna be my year!' I love the hype.

If everyone thought that way, or felt that way, or was motivated to make that statement come true for their lives....imagine what we could accomplish for society as a whole!

Some critics might say that claiming 2017 for themselves is being selfish or arrogant.

I have to disagree...

Imagine if the scientist who was on the verge of a huge medical breakthrough claimed 2017 as her year, or the engineer who was passionate about affordable housing claimed 2017 as his year. Imagine if all the people with a creative idea for positive change had the motivation to claim 2017 and say 'this is going to be my year!'.

Imagine what our world would look like come the end of December!

Doesn't that make you excited? Doesn't that make you want to join the ranks of those claiming 2017?

Doesn't that make you want to be at your best and bring your best game?

Are you going to claim 2017 as yours? I know I am.

So what now?

Now that we've claimed this new year for ourselves, do we just go back to doing the same thing as last year?

NOOOOO!!! You've heard what the definition of insanity is right?! "Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results"!

How can we claim that 2017 is going to be our year if we don't start doing things differently?

It doesn't have to be a huge change...even the tinniest step can cause a chain reaction...just ask my boys when they're trying to build the 'tallest block tower ever'...the tinniest misstep around those blocks and they come crashing down around them...

So what towers -or in your case, walls- do you need to come crashing down around you?

For me, I'm shy. I'm not very good at approaching people and putting myself out there. I'm more timid and like to be in the background of things....probably why I'm a graphic designer...I get to hide behind my laptop. So thats my biggest wall. I know----this is not the common behaviour of someone trying to run their own business, nor of a Pastor's Wife---but that's me.

So my first tiny step is to stop being afraid and to start to put myself out there more...

...I'm going to say 'Hello' to complete strangers....maybe even strike a conversation....sounds pretty pathetic but remember

it's about baby steps

...I'm going to blog more---not just superficially but really show myself as a person---and pray the response is positive

...I will go on Facebook live....at some point....might be only for 1min but for someone who hates having a video of themselves this would be quite the accomplishment

...And above all else I will pray and spend more time with God. For me, thats where my strength comes from. For you, if you're of a different religion, or of none at all, it might be a form of meditation, or having quite time for you to find strength and encouragement for what's ahead.

Why are these my goals? Because people are drawn to other real people. They are not drawn to a computer (as least for the majority). I want to show that I am real person, someone with whom a real friendship can develop.

Because to claim 2017 for me I want to share my knowledge; provide helpful resources; help individuals and new businesses; grow my clientele; and ultimately make my business a thriving success for my family.

So in the spirit of friendship and of claiming 2017 for us, I have created 2 freebies for you. I don't know about you but it's hard to keep on top of all the things that need to get done in a day and still focus on the goals for the year.

Personally I need lists.

I need calendars.

I need reminders.

So I designed myself a day planner page and a week planner page. Something I can write my short term goals on, keep track of my things to do, jot down appointments, make sure I feed my family, stay active, even drink water. And I can keep it out at my workspace to make sure that I stay on track. I love them!!
